A MORE YOUTHFUL YOU

If the face you see in the mirror no longer reflects the youthful and vibrant way you feel inside, it may be time to consider a facelift.

The rhytidectomy, more commonly known as a facelift, is a surgical procedure created to turn back the clock on the visual signs of early aging, uncovering a youthful appearance. After a facelift procedure, you’ll notice that you have a naturally refreshed, energized look.

Dr. Francesco Gargano is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with an established track record of helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals with facial rejuvenation surgery, including a range of facelift procedure options. He has extensive experience and training in the latest facelift techniques. He is always careful to spend the time necessary to ensure a beautiful, natural, and long-lasting result without the tell-tale look of surgery. With extensive experience in facelift procedures, one of the Best Plastic Surgeons in NYC, Dr. Francesco Gargano understands the intricacies of the facial anatomy and can manipulate underlying muscles and soft tissues to create a natural, more youthful appearance. He will tailor your procedure to your precise needs, so your result is distinctly you, only better. Whether you are looking for a slight improvement or a full rejuvenation, a facelift is customized to produce just the results you want. Combining a facelift with other components of facial rejuvenation such as a neck lift, eyelid surgery or a brow lift can harmonize the effects of each procedure delivering a natural result that can help you look 10 to 15 years younger.

In general, this procedure produces the best results for patients who possess:

  • Loose facial skin
  • Sagging and wrinkled neck skin
  • Heavy jowls
  • Sunken cheeks
  • A poorly defined jawline
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

FULL FACELIFT

This term is a bit of a misnomer, as the surgery doesn’t truly focus on the entire facial area. Instead, this technique concentrates on the lower half or two-thirds of the face. If you’re interested in rejuvenating your forehead or the area around your eyes, you’ll want to consider brow lift surgery or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) as an add-on surgery.

During a full facelift, a facial plastic surgeon will make incisions along the hairline, around the ears, and under the chin. Recovery can be extensive after a full facial lifting procedure, but the results are also more dramatic and long-lasting compared to less invasive options.

LIMITED INCISION FACELIFT

Also known as a mini facelift, this popular rhytidectomy technique is less invasive than a full facelift. During the surgery, the surgeon will make incisions along the hairline and ears, but not under the chin. The incisions and eventual scars are usually well-concealed by the hair. This version of the procedure requires less downtime, but also provides less dramatic results than a full procedure.

THE IDEAL FACELIFT CANDIDATE

You might be a candidate for a rhytidectomy if you have signs of aging, such as loose skin near the jawline, excess skin around the chin and neck, fatty deposits in the face, and deep creases. Ideally, candidates for facial rejuvenation surgery will be in good health, without any untreated, ongoing medical conditions. It’s also essential that candidates have realistic expectations and goals for surgery. Candidates should be non-smokers or must be willing to quit smoking several weeks before their surgery for safety reasons.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY:

Your face will be bandaged after surgery. The bandages are usually removed 1 to 2 days later. If you have had a drainage tube (generally behind your ear), it will also be removed 1 to 2 days after surgery. Your doctor will remove the stitches in 5 to 10 days.

Dr. Francesco Gargano may prescribe medicine to relieve pain after surgery. Expect to have swelling and bruising on your face. Cold compresses can help alleviate these side effects. Your doctor may tell you to keep your head elevated and still as much as possible. Most people can return to normal activities 2 to 3 weeks after a facelift.

EFFECTIVENESS

Getting a facelift can give your face a younger, healthier appearance. The face will continue to age, but a facelift does indeed “take years away” from your face. For some people, this can increase self-confidence and reduce anxiety about aging.

A stretch can significantly reduce the signs of aging. But it cannot reverse sun damage to the skin or remove all facial wrinkles around the eyes, under the nose, and around the lips. For the best results, you may want to have a facelift and then treat any skin damage.
